Cellular and molecular mechanisms of immune response against Legionella unveiled
Immune responses against bacterial pathogens in the lung protect us against pneumonia. A new study at IMMEI and University of Melbourne lead by Dr. Lara Oberchircher (Bonn), Prof. Natalio Garbi (Bonn), Prof. Ian van Driel (Melbourne) and Prof. Liz Hartland (Melbourne) has identified opposed functions for lung resident and infiltrating immune cells as well as a crucial role of the IL-18/IFNg-ROS axis on the protection agasint L. longbeachae.
